The Black Hawk Sanitary Landfill accepts waste from the cities and counties within the landfill’s service area. The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission does not collect any materials and they do not operate any waste hauling vehicles. Dumpsters and haulers must be contracted through a private company or your city (if this service is available).

Dumpsters and Haulers for Rural Homes and Individual Home Projects

Cities provide waste collection, recycling programs, and other services specifically for their city residents, but some may also provide large item pickup, cleanup events, or dumpster rentals. Policies and programs differ. Contact your city hall or public works department for your city’s specific policies.

Garbage

Many private companies provide hauling services and rent dumpsters to rural residents and individuals for home projects, as well as providing services for businesses. Look for trash hauling companies listed in the yellow pages of the phone book under “Garbage & Rubbish Collection”.

Some moving companies will assist with removing large or bulky items for a fee. Look in the yellow pages of the phone book under “Movers”.

Recycling

Many cities allow their rural residents to use their city recycling drop-off locations.
