The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission’s educational outreach is provided through the Waste Trac Education Team, with programs and tours for youth, adults, and the general public in Black Hawk County.
The Commission strives to educate the citizens of Black Hawk County about the connection between the choices people make in their daily lives and the impact of those choices on our environment. Through the Waste Trac Education Team and corresponding partnerships, the Commission encourages residents to reduce the amount of materials entering the Black Hawk County Sanitary Landfill. Along with many other outreach duties, the Waste Trac Education Team provides solid waste related educational programs and tours.

Waste Trac Education Team youth programs are perfect for kids! Preschools and Head Start classrooms, K-12 public and private school classrooms, home school groups, after school programs, scout groups, and other youth-oriented organizations will love the hands-on, story-based, fun programs. In addition, most activities (including tours) can be adjusted for a specific grade or to cover certain standards and benchmarks or group goals.
Waste Trac Education Team programs are great for adult groups too. College students, civic organizations, neighborhood associations, church groups, bank clubs, businesses, and assisted living groups will enjoy fun, informative activities. Presentations (including tours) can be adjusted to meet your individual group’s interests.
Throughout the year, the Waste Trac Education Team also partners with a variety of other local agencies to provide educational workshops and activities for Cedar Valley residents. From child summer camp days and story hours to adult tours, there is something for all ages!
